Relive Y2K Bug As iPhone Alarms Are Seemingly Not Working In 2011

Word is advancing beyond the Twitterverse (yes!) that the iPhone‘s clock alarm app isn’t alive in the year 2011. Yeah, really, it’s Y2K, except this time it’s real. According to letters via the microblogging service, clock alarms will not arena in the 2011, which is an odd and absolutely annoying affection for iPhone users in the new year.

As Engadget writes, it sounds similar to the problems with Daylights Savings Time that the iPhone had earlier in the year. Considering that this hasn’t happened in any of the previous New Years with the Phone, it’s being hypothesized that this could be an issue with iOS 4.2.1.

Apple has yet to say anything on the matter (seeing as it was just reported), but a workaround is being reported. Simply set any one-off alarm as recurring and it’ll wake you up in the morning. It isn’t clear if is just affecting those with the newest firmware (4.2.1) or if it’s affecting older software, as well. Also, none of the blog reports mention if it’s also affecting the iPad and iPod Touch, so beware out there, iFans.

Be sure to tell everybody you know with an iPhone about this. Seriously, send them an email or text message before they oversleep tomorrow! Nothing on when we can expect a fix from Apple, but we’ll keep you posted.
